About Metamorphosis |
We are an
outpatient clinic specializing in the treatment of narcotic dependence,
located in Salt Lake City.
We are a methadone and Buprenorphine
(Suboxone) medication assisted recovery program that serves adult men and
women. Methadone is administered through our licensed and certified clinic,
while our physicians prescribe Suboxone under their individual licenses. We
provide both maintenance and detox services/programs. Admission is given to
persons who fit the diagnostic criteria for opiate dependence. Our belief is
that methadone and Suboxone, used as therapeutic tools for recovery, aid in the
continued abstinence of illicit narcotic drugs and promotes harm reduction in
our patient population. We promote and encourage abstinence from all illicit
drugs, but realize that not all patients are ready for this step. We therefore
follow a harm reduction philosophy and continue to work with patients so long
we have any evidence of benefit and reduction of harm to the patient and/or the
community.
We believe strongly that counseling and
medication services are both critical for recovery from opioid dependencies. We
are a treatment of last resort for such individuals. We incorporate individual
counseling, case management and referral services into each individual's
treatment program. We utilize a variety of counseling styles and recovery
options; we don't believe that there is any one universal recovery model that
can meet all the needs of our diverse clientele. However, we focus on evidenced
or research based treatments--those treatments that have been demonstrated
effectiveness in well designed clinical trials. We offer ongoing clinical
support and related medical care and assistance to our patients throughout the
duration of treatment, and offer a lifetime of free counseling for patients who
successfully conclude the medication portion of maintenance treatment (defined as six months or more of treatment with methadone or Suboxone).
What is
methadone?: Methadone is a long-acting synthetic opiate antagonist that is
generally administered orally in liquid form. We are very patient centered and rely heavily on
the self-reports of our patients. The desired effects of the methadone
treatment are:
- The prevention of the opioid related withdrawal
arising from sudden opioid abstinence.
- The elimination of opioid hunger and cravings.
- No euphoric or other undesirable narcotic effects
of any kind
